There are a number of practical exercises during the workshop:

- 09.00-12.30 Food coding: LanguaL and FoodEx
- 13.30-17.00 Food databases: FoodCase-Risk Introduction
Please bring your laptop if you have one. You will also need to pre-download the following:
- FoodEx2 browsing tool – available to download from: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/datex/datexfoodclass.htm
- LanguaL Food Product Indexer and Thesaurus from: http://www.langual.org/langual_food_product_indexer_database_2013.asp
Please bring some labels (actual or printed label information) that would make the exercises more interesting; the more difficult the better since the aim is to get an idea of what is involved with using LanguaL and FoodEx2.
Google Chrome is recommended for accessing these downloads, but other browsers will work.
NB: FoodEx2 and LanguaL will only work on a PC
Further, you will need Java for FoodCase-Risk. To test if Java is installed on your laptop, you can use Oracle’s website: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp, click on the ‘Verify Java version’ button and allow the tool to do all tests.
